In a sign of the times, 5 of the world’s largest baseball cap manufacturers have agreed to supply installation instructions with each cap sold following a series of social media fashion faux pas.
The instructions, which will include diagrams as well as text are designed to be used by all ages and will start appearing in stores in the next few months.
A spokesman for the Australian Baseball Cap Distributors, Exporters and Fitters United (ABCDEFU) said that while baseball caps had been worn backwards in the past, it was only with the advent of social media that the scale of incorrect cap installation could be properly measured.
“We always knew there was an issue. I mean, if there’s an incorrect way to do something then someone will do it, so it was no surprise when we began to see people on social media accidentally wearing their hats backwards, or even sideways.”
“But while social media does allow us to appreciate the scale of the problem, it also allows people who haven’t figured out how to wear a cap to broadcast images of incorrectly-fitted hats on a global scale, which can lead to confusion for other cap users.”
“We appreciate that most cap wearers will think the instructions are unnecessary, but we have a responsibility to do what we can to nip this problem in the bud before we have a full-blown backwards cap disaster like the early 1990s.”
