Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has today announced plans to lift Melbourne’s lockdown, and allow residents the same freedoms that have been enjoyed by most of the state since late July.

The comes after Victoria went a day without any new coronavirus cases for the first time since June.

Andrews hosted a press conference earlier today to outline Melbourne’s return to society.

Residents now no longer need a reason to to leave home at any given time, retail will be allowed to re-open, and hospitality venues will be allowed to seat patrons again from 11:59pm tomorrow.

This news has been met with pure euphoria in the Victorian capital, travel out of town also on the cards as the restrictions between city residents travelling away from home also looks likely to be lifted.

However, the exciting news has already been spoiled for one Brunswick recruitment officer, Hayley, who has just learnt that her first girls brunch will also include her mortal enemy.

Kels, or Kelly as she goes by on her LinkedIn, is the last person that Hayley wants to see on her first day back drinking mimosas and eating food cooked by someone who is not her husband.

“Really!?” Hayley asks Bec, the event organiser, with a manic tone that inner-city Melbourne residents have become known for.

“We are only allowed ten?? And that’s if we can even find a table that big!”

“Are you seriously going to waste a spot on Kels, you know we haven’t spoken literally the whole lockdown after what she said about Dan Andrews”

Unfortunately for Hayley, as the Switzerland of the tight-knit social circle, Bec is unable to just not invite Kelly to the champagne breakfast that will obviously be plastered all over social media.

“Haha umm okay” sneers Hayley.

“I get it”

“Actually don’t worry about me hun, I’m gonna stay home on Wednesday”

MORE TO COME.
