In some more good news for Australian tennis, local hope Ash Barty will go into our home grand slam with the Yarra Valley Classic under her belt.

The world Number One and Australian Open favourite took out the title against Spaniard Garbiñe Muguruza in straight sets.

Taking great confidence into the tournament starting today, Barty was also given the inaugural Roast Chook Trophy.

Picked up from Coles earlier that day, the 10 dollar chook was somehow mounted to a piece of wood and handed out as the new Yarra Valley trophy.

“I’m wasn’t really sure how it was going to keep, so I just got someone to pick up some coleslaw and rolls on the way to the hotel and polished it off,” explained Ash.

“Always good.”

“I don’t mind it as a trophy idea”

“Should be a bit leftover for lunch today too.”

More to come.
