“Raptors baby!” shouted local graphic designer, Declan Washer on his way into the office this morning.

“We did it!”

“Kawhi my a river!”

While this newfound fandom may seem uncharacteristic for Deccers, it also isn’t a rare occurence in workplaces around Australia this Monday.

The 33-year-old young father from Betoota’s trendy French Quarter is just one of thousands of Australians who spent a bit of time in Canada before he began a tertiary education. Mostly teaching kids how to ski and smoking high grade arctic kush.

It was during this freezing four minutes in his early twenties that Declan developed a lifelong devotion to the Canada-based NBA franchise, the Toronto Raptors.

While this isn’t something that ever gets talked about outside of their rare appearance in the NBA finals, Declan insists that his obsession with the Raptors is something that talks about all the time – and if you ask any of his real friends, from outside work, they’ll tell you the same thing.

Short of having anyone in his workplace who cares remotely about the NBA, Declan is now forced to talk about his most recent sportswin to Jenna in accounts – who knows about North American basketball because of her obsession with Drake and the Kardashians.

“Haha. I saw it on Drake’s instagram” says Jenna.

“Was it football or basketball?”

Declan pretends he didn’t hear that last question and mocks like he’s throwing a jump shot into an imaginary basketball net.

“The curse is broken!” says Declan.

“I was running through the six with my hoes!”

“Haha”
