The 2023 NRL Grand Final is just hours away, and the Brisbane Broncos are preparing to take on the Penrith Panthers in the battle of the rugby league heartlands.

While the Panthers players stick to their highly-disciplined routine of light warm ups and music, the Brisbane Broncos are staying true to their seige mentality and doing whatever the fuck works.

However, since 2019, the Brisbane club has adopted an unorthodox tradition that helps them prepare for their final match of the season.

It is believed that players and staff are nervous that superstition will take over if the boys aren’t able to feed a few pineapples through the brickies laptops before kick off.

Club officials have confirmed that all 40 members of the playing squad have been directed to scour the suburb of Homebush for a publican that is a big enough Broncos die-hard to violate state law and cram the boys into a space that is not designed for that many people – while also avoiding the attention of any fans that might be loitering around Accor stadium before the Grand Final begins.

At time of press, Broncos trainer Alfie Langer looks to have made some progress with the manager of a local tavern, who was directing the boys round the back to the drive-thru bottle shop entry.

MORE TO COME.
