American basketball legend LeBron James (35) has today confirmed rumours that he is interested in extending his sporting career long enough to play alongside his son Bronny, who is twenty years his junior.

At fifteen years old, Bronny James is already being tipped for NBA stardom like his LA Lakers superstar father.

LeBron, who is arguably the greatest athlete of the modern era, has long avoided addressing the rumours that he and his family have plans to see him and Bronny become the first ever father-son teammates in the competition.

In January this year, a reporter asked James if he would entertain the idea of playing for the Knicks down the road if his son, Bronny James, were drafted by the team.

LeBron didn’t complete dismiss the idea, but admitted a lot needs to go right before his now 15-year-old son and he can play together.

However, the a 4-club veteran of the NBA has today confirmed that this is indeed the plan on the Twitter this morning.

Citing 37-year-old Australian rugby league veteran Cameron Smith as his inspiration, James said he will be doing everything in his power to finish his career by breaking the most unattainable sports record as an intergenerational teammate of his own son.

A well-known Melbourne Storm fan, LeBron James said “seeing Cameron out their with his boy for two full seasons really got me focused”

When it comes to father-son teammates in the NRL, 24-year-old Brandon Smith and his father, Cameron Smith are also the first to do it in their code.

Brandon, who goes by the nickname of “Cheese” to avoid the comparisons that come with his last name, is the oldest of Cameron Smith’s four children.

Before Cameron and Brandon Smith, the closest the NRL had ever gotten to a father and son playing together was in the latter days of John Hopoate’s career, when his oldest boy Will was due to join him in the Manly squad, before Hoppa got suspended for 18 weeks for committing grievous bodily harm during a match against Cronulla.

Brandon Smith is the result of a teenage romance between his father and a Kiwi girl he met on a family holiday to Magnetic Island as a 13-year-old, and was raised in Townsville with his other siblings.

After reconnecting with his father during his teenage years, Brandon was encouraged to move to Melbourne and join the family business, where he impressed both Storm selectors and fans as a big sweaty, labrador-looking hooker.

“Love watching daddy cheer on his boy out there last night” tweeted LeBron.

“Gotdam the Roosters aint coming back from that”
