SBS football presenter Lucy Zelic has been forced to apologise today after labelling Adelaide ‘dull’ and ‘a shithole’ on some show about soccer last night.

Despite both those statements being true, the Canbranese footballer faced backlash overnight from those in the Commonwealth who speak like they’ve just bitten into a very hot pie.

Adelaide, despite being ‘one of the most liveable cities in the world’, enjoys the reputation of being the capital of snooze around the country.

The more petulant Sydneysiders would claim that they live in the most boring place in Australia because they have a small amount nightclubs inside the CBD and Kings Cross locales – but those people are drug addicts who haven’t been to Parramatta after dark before.

Nevertheless, Lucy took to social media this morning to apologise to the people of Adelaide who sent her mean things on the internet.

“From the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry for calling Adelaide a dull shithole,” she wrote.

“I’m also sorry that me making an off the cuff remark that millions of other Australians make everyday caused you such anguish,”

“I hope the people of Adelaide can forgive me. Honestly, I’m not joking. You don’t know what it’s like to be a woman and to make an honest mistake on a sports show.”

The Advocate reached out to Adelaide United for comment but accidentally phoned the South Australian Cricket Board instead.

They explained without drawing a breath that the Don was racist, in hindsight, and they’ve since distanced themselves from him and his legacy.

After a pause, they asked who was calling and our reporter elected to just hang the phone up – then leave it off the hook.

More to come.
