Aviator sunglasses, or “pilot’s glasses”, were originally developed in 1936 for pilots to protect their eyes while flying, thus the name aviator, but go through waves of popularity from time to time, particularly amongst people like IT employees.
However, the new report found that Highway Cops and Air Force pilots now only wear wraparound Oakleys, and that the number of aviator wearers is shrinking.
The lead researcher from GQ explained that as a result of this, the only people successfully pulling off the aviators are elderly Sikh men.
“Even on younger Sikh men, the aviators are not a great look. You’ve got to be the other side of your 60th birthday to be able to rock the Terminator sunnies,” the researcher said.
The researcher then went as far as to say that the turban/aviators combo could possibly be the look of 2019.
“It’s obviously hard to say these things definitively, but at the moment that’s what it’s looking like it could be.”
