Following the vaguely confirmed rumours that Russia might have interfered with the 2016 Presidential election, journalists around the country are relishing in the chance to use their new favourite word

EDIT**

Following the vaguely confirmed rumours that Russia might have MEDDLED with the 2016 Presidential election, journalists around the country are relishing in the chance to use their new favourite word.

Meddling, or Meddled, or Meddle, is defined by Oxford Dictionary as: to interfere in something that is not one’s concern.
E.G:

“I don’t want anyone meddling in our affairs”

“Russia was meddling in the 2016 USA election – and may be part of the reason that the Democrats lost, aside from Hillary Clinton losing every single presidential debate and not visiting half the country during the campaign”

The sharp increase in the use of the word ‘meddling’ is directly correlated with the Russia probe.

President Trump slammed the special counsel’s investigation into possible election meddling from Russia and, with Russian President Vladimir Putin alongside him at a stunning news conference Monday, seemed to accept Putin’s denials of meddling over the unanimous conclusions of U.S. intelligence officials who have been investigating the meddling for some months now.

In a remarkable news conference, Mr. Trump did not name a single action for which Mr. Putin should be held accountable. Instead, he saved his criticism for the United States and the special counsel’s meddling into allegations of election meddling, calling it a “ridiculous” probe and a “witch hunt” that has kept the two countries apart under thinly-veiled anti-Trump rhetoric, disguised as an investigation into any possible meddling

Mr. Trump even questioned the determinations by his intelligence officials that Russia had meddled in the election.

“They said they think it’s Russia,” Mr. Trump said. “I have President Putin; he just said it’s not Russia,” the president continued, only moments after Mr. Putin conceded that he had wanted Mr. Trump to win the election because of his promises of warmer relations with Moscow.
